The Move Forward party leader and Prime Ministerial candidate Pita Limjaroenrat left the parliament after the Constitutional Court on Wednesday announced it was taking into consideration a case filed by the Election Commission (EC), which challenges Mr. Pita’s position as MP, due to his share ownership in the now-defunct TV broadcaster iTV.

Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat has left the parliament during a joint sitting, upon the Constitutional Court order suspending him from duties. Mr. Pita’s duties as a member of parliament (MP) will be suspended until the court rules on his media share ownership dispute.

The EC has alleged, based on a complaint made, that Mr. Pita’s share ownership in iTV is considered a prohibition. The Constitutional Court has ordered that Mr. Pita be suspended from his MP roles until the court reaches a ruling on this matter.

Speaking at the parliament before leaving, Mr. Pita said he will comply with this order while urging other MPs from Move Forward to continue taking care of the people.

Mr. Pita expressed his confidence that Thai society has already changed after the 14 May general election, before removing his MP badge and leaving the meeting hall. His walkout was met by applause and handshakes from other MPs from the eight-party coalition. (NNT)
