With only short time to go before the end of the year, things are really hotting up in the race to become the TRGG Golfer of the Year 2014.

The title goes to the player who finishes the calendar year with the most wins.  There are three contenders who are neck and neck, all on ten wins and one outsider on nine.  Of course the title is a little unfair as obviously those that play the most rounds of golf in the year have a much greater chance than those who only play a few.  For that reason at the end of the year I shall also publish the best average results for those who have at least five wins and the number of rounds played.

Paul Stanton - winner at Plutaluang.Paul Stanton – winner at Plutaluang.

After this past week’s results the undoubted favourite is the mighty Mike Rushant.  The perpendicularly challenged but fit as a butcher’s dog little guy would have made a great jockey, but for this year at least he is excelling at winning golf competitions and this week he won two.

Monday, Dec. 8, Plutaluang – Stableford

On Monday it was off to Plutaluang (North and West courses) and it was Paul Stanton, who has recently been showing some good form, who flew to the top of the rankings with an excellent 38 points.  On the day nobody got near him and it was Derek Thorogood and Ken Brehm who took the “also ran” places of second and third.

1st Paul Stanton (13) 38pts

2nd Derek Thorogood (13) 33pts

3rd Ken Brehm (16) 32pts

Tuesday, Dec. 9, Banpakong – Stableford

On Tuesday it was off to the golf course with a locker room fit for a king and a course that is always immaculate, Bangpakong.  On the day the wind got up and it played a little more difficult than normal but it proved not to be a problem for the good golfers and it was three very good golfers who filled the first three places.

Alan Thomas, a five handicapper who is unerringly accurate, took first place with 40 points but he only got the better of Andrew Purdie on count back.  Neil Bramley, another excellent golfer, was tucked in behind in third place.

1st Alan Thomas (5) 40pts

2nd Andrew Purdie (10) 40pts

3rd Neil Bramley (7) 37pts

Thursday, Dec. 11, Green Valley – Stableford

It was back to Green Valley on Thursday and it was here that Mike Rushant showed his class by winning Division 1.  It was a close run thing however, with Mike only pipping Alan Thomas after a count back.  Also close behind was big Jon Dean on 35 points.

Dorsey Richardson - winner at Crystal Bay.Dorsey Richardson – winner at Crystal Bay.

The finish in Division 2 was also very tight with Alan McLeod winning his first golf competition in Thailand.  Well done Alan!  He beat wily old Ted Senior on count back, with Tony Molan a point behind in third place.

1st Mike Rushant (10) 36pts

2nd Alan Thomas (5) 36pts

3rd Jon Dean (11) 35pts

Div. 2 (13+)

1st Alan McLeod (30) 34pts

2nd Ted Senior (16) 34pts

Saturday, Dec. 13, Crystal Bay – Stableford

On Saturday it was the turn of Crystal Bay (C and A courses) to play host to the TRGG.  Again two Divisions were required and again the unbeatable Mike Rushant took charge.  He mopped up Division 1 with ease and only Paul Stanton and the soon to be departing Jim Cleaver gave him a run for his money.  Jim is leaving balmy Thailand after a four year stay to return to outer Siberia aka England.  Good luck Jim and say hello to all those brass monkeys for me.

In Division 2, who said nice guys finish last?  Nice guy Dorsey Richardson proved the old saying wrong by finishing first.  He was followed home by two old stagers, Tom Kett and Fergus Brennan

Div.1 ()-12)

1st Mike Rushant (10) 39pts

2nd Paul Stanton (12) 37pts
