BANGKOK, 24 December 2014  Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is on a 4-day visit to the northern province of Tak from 21st to 24th December, to monitor the progress of child and youth development projects imposed by the princess at remote schools.

On the third day of her visit on Tuesday, Her Royal Highness went to Ban Huai Rapring  Village in Mae Sot District to open a new Border Patrol Police school. The school was built at the initiative of the Princess as a memorial to Professor Sampao and Mrs.Phaiwan Warangkul, a couple who had devoted their life and time to the development of BPP schools and nutritional promotion of students at those schools. The school was opened in Febrauary this year to provide elementary and primary education to children in this remote community. Most of the students here belong to hilltribe families and were previously unable to speak Thai and rarely had education due to the mountainous terrain of their villages, making it difficult for children to travel to any school.

Since its inception, the school has undertaken eight royal development projects which have resulted in better quality of life and education of the children, most of whom are now able to speak Thai. Many government units have been supporting the royal initiatives by constructing a 4-kilometer irrigation canal to the school which will be completed next year. The Cooperative Group of Bang Khen has provided computer sets for children for their search of global knowledge. Dormitories have also been built for students who live more than 3 kilometers away from the school.

On the day of her visit, the Princess also gave the school 50 hens and ducks so that their eggs will be used in school lunch. In terms of skill development, the children are taught in cloth weaving and hair dressing which they can use in the future to earn supplementary income. The school currently has 116 students.
