Sattahip residents and military personnel harvested Sanyod-style jasmine rice to honor HM the King for Father’s Day, a crop that had been planted around Mother’s Day back in August.

Adm. Kraisorn Chansuvanich presided over the Navy Wives Association-organized event Dec. 17 attended by students from Sattahip schools, Royal Thai Navy personnel, civil servants and local residents.

Together they harvested Sangyod GI jasmine rice – the preferred strain of HM the King – at the Sufficiency Economy Learning Center at the Naval Recruit Training Center.

The admiral explained that the harvest was the first of two parts of the ceremony meant to promote HM the King’s sufficiency economy philosophy and honor tradition. A similar group planted the rice on Aug. 5, a week before HM the Queen’s birthday.
