Ministers on Sports from Southeast Asian countries today gathered at the 7th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS-7) in Chiang Mai Province of Thailand. The goal of this conference was to promote development and healthy lifestyles in the ASEAN community through sports.
The meeting today was presided over by Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn who serves as the chair of ASEAN’s ministers on sports for 2022-2023.
The agenda included briefings on the outcomes of the 13th and 14th ASEAN Senior Officials Meetings on Sports, the making of ASEAN Fitness Indicators, and the outcomes of technical committee meetings for ASEAN’s joint bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
The meeting also acknowledged a report from the World Anti-Doping Agency and its ambition to support fair competition and promote sports ethics. They have also endorsed the joint statement of ASEAN’s Ministers on Sports, which marks an important step towards a stronger and better ASEAN community.
Mr. Phiphat on this occasion handed over the chairmanship role to Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong, who will be serving as chairman for the cycle year 2024-2025.
The meeting also featured an exhibition and exchange sessions for sports expertise and innovation between Thailand and Japan, and an exposition of local sports equipment. (NNT)
