Thailand commemorates 33rd anniversary of Seub Nakhasathien’s passing

Seub is celebrated for his significant contributions to nature conservation, particularly as the former head of the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, which became Thailand’s first internationally recognized natural heritage site under his leadership.

Thailand recently commemorated the 33rd anniversary of the passing of renowned conservationist and scholar Seub Nakhasathien.

Seub is celebrated for his significant contributions to nature conservation, particularly as the former head of the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, which became Thailand’s first internationally recognized natural heritage site under his leadership.



On the evening of August 31st, a candlelight vigil was held in Seub’s honor at his monument inside the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary. The event was led by Athapol Charoenshunsa, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, in his role as the head of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.



The vigil was co-organized by the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation and other conservation organizations.

Seub Nakhasathien passed away on September 1, 1990, at the age of 40. To carry on his legacy, the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation was established on September 18th of the same year, with the aim of safeguarding the Huai Kha Khaeng forest and other natural habitats. (NNT)
