An HIV/AIDS charity recently given eviction orders by a Pattaya neighborhood saw a famous actor and members of the national windsurfing team throw their support behind the group at their Christmas party.
Actor Ad Asada and windsurfers Siriporn Kaewduang-ngam, Srocha Pumprai and Krongkaew Sukulfang joined several dozen HIV patients and even villagers and children from the community that is evicting them at the Glory Hut Foundation’s Dec. 25 party in the Lang Nern neighborhood. Around 100 people joined the celebration.

Activities in the celebration included students from the Technical University of Sattahip singing Christmas carols and playing music, dance shows performed by the children from Baan Jing Jai orphanage, and other shows performed by private groups who joined the celebration.
The atmosphere was full of joy and happiness while everybody who joined was treated to food and beverages. There were also prizes donated for a lucky draw.
Ad and his entourage handed out sweets and presents to the members of the foundation as well as children and villagers. The popular actor took group photos with everybody who attended the party.
About 100 of the local villagers took part in the festive party.
“Many people of the community may think that HIV is a disease that is easy to catch, but actually it isn’t if we study a little more about it,” Ad said. “We can all have a disease, including cancer, AIDS or other diseases but we are all human. We must learn to live and work together, help each other and that will be the road to harmony.”
Villagers, complaining they were not informed Glory Hut was caring for HIV-positive and AIDS patients, members of the Lang Nern Community on Dec. 12 voted 131-30 to evict the cash-strapped charity, requiring it to relocate within six months.
Actor Ad Asada was a great addition to the fun.
Community President Jitlada Weluwan said earlier residents were afraid their children would contract AIDS, that wastewater flowing out of the facility smelled “strange,” and that they objected to HIV patients walking outside of the facility.
Even after intense international criticism, residents remained steadfast, leaving Nongprue Sub-district officials unable to work out a compromise.
Glory Hut Director Pornsawan Christpirak appeared to harbor no ill feelings toward neighboring residents, even though the foundation lacks funds to move to another location easily.

“We are all Christians and that’s why we normally celebrate Christmas on a yearly basis,” Pornsawan said. “This is the first year that we have celebrated in this community and we would like to wish everybody happiness and give as much as possible to fellow community members, hoping that they would all understand us and that we mean no harm and we wish to live in harmony.”
