PATTAYA, Thailand – A terrifying incident unfolded on October 6 when a 19-year-old woman, identified only as Miss Aew, narrowly escaped a harrowing ordeal within an apartment complex in Soi Khao Ta Lo, east Pattaya. The assailant, believed to be around 30 years old and known as “Bung,” attempted to assault Miss Aew and forcibly took her OPPO Reno 5 smartphone, valued at around 10,000 Thai Baht.
Miss Aew, the victim, had recently interacted with Bang through the LINE app for about a month. Following their online conversations, Bung proposed an in-person meeting. On the evening of the incident, Bung arrived with another male companion, who was introduced as his younger brother, suggesting they go out for a drink together.
Upon returning to Miss Aew’s room, Bung asked to wait in her room, while his younger brother went off on an errand, taking her phone with him. Seizing the moment, Bung attempted to assault Miss Aew. However, she resisted fiercely, calling out for help. In response, Bung resorted to threats, warning her of harm with a knife if she did not comply.
With sheer determination, Miss Aew managed to break free from Bung’s grasp and sought refuge in her neighbors’ room, escaping further harm. Bung fled the scene during the commotion. Miss Aew, shocked by the unexpected turn of events, clarified that the meeting with Bung was initially intended for a meal, and she had no prior romantic involvement with him. She expressed her commitment to pursuing legal action to the fullest extent.
Police are actively investigating the case and intensively searching for the suspect, to bring him to justice. They again warned the public to be vigilant for their own safety, especially in online interactions that transition into real-life meetings.
