Authorities have released a man taken into custody for the killing a traffic policeman in a hit-and-run accident near Highway 7, finding there was no evidence to charge him.
The unidentified driver was released without charge Jan. 7 after police seized his vehicle near the Baan Nong Kwae bridge due to signs of an apparent collision and stains that resembled blood on the tires, Pattaya police chief Pol. Col. Supathee Bunkhrong said.
Pol. Lt. Pradit Sisuwan, who was based out of Pattaya Police Station since 1998, was killed in a hit and run accident near the entrance of Highway 7 on Sukhumvit Road.
The car was sent to the Chonburi Office of Police Forensic Science for examination.
The driver, however, denied any involvement in the Jan. 6 death of Pol. Lt. Pradit Sisuwan near the entrance of Highway 7 on Sukhumvit Road. He reportedly proved to investigators he was in Sriracha around 5 p.m. when the accident occurred.
Witnesses said Pol. Lt. Pradit, 55, was struck by a Mitsubishi Pajero while he was riding his Honda motorbike. CCTV cameras failed to capture the collision and the driver sped away on Highway 7.
Top area police brass, including Region 2 police commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Thanet Phinmueang, led the bathing ceremony at Pradit’s funeral at Nong Yai Temple.
Pattaya Police Station, which had been Pol. Lt. Pradit’s base since 1998, has donated 10,000 baht to the fallen officer’s family and the Royal Thai Police promoted him posthumously three ranks to Pol. Major to provide his family with a better pension.
