PATTAYA, Thailand – A recent video capturing a foreign tourist stumbling on a road stub on Jomtien Beach Road has triggered alarm within the local community. The footage shows a British tourist’s unfortunate fall, resulting in a broken nose, echoing a prior incident involving a Canadian visitor who suffered broken ribs and open wounds under similar circumstances.

On October 23, Ms. Lisa Hamilton, Chairwoman of the Pattaya Night Business Association, voiced her apprehension after watching the distressing video. She expressed that such incidents have been reported in the past, with little to no response from local authorities to rectify the issue of hazardous road stubs.

Hamilton emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “It’s a serious issue that we must address. If such incidents persist, it not only jeopardizes the safety of tourists but also tarnishes the city’s image as a premier tourist destination.”

Despite Pattaya’s global acclaim for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant atmosphere, the recurring incidents of tourists stumbling over road stubs demand urgent attention. While the project addressing this concern was initiated by the previous administration, the current administration has yet to take decisive action, causing growing unease among locals, especially business owners who fear the potential negative impact on the tourism industry.

Hamilton urged authorities to earnestly tackle the problem to avert further accidents, emphasizing the need to prioritize tourist safety and satisfaction. Beyond the immediate threat of tripping accidents, there are also growing concerns about motorcycle accidents, as road stubs contribute to hazardous conditions for motorcyclists.
