BANGKOK, Jan 14 -Modernine TV, a major arm of MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT), an established Thai media firm running Thai News Agency (TNA) and Modern Radio Networks as well, has received the Forest Protection Award from the Thai Ministry of National Resources and Environment for its continuing news presentations on the conservation of forests and related issues.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Gen Dapong Ratanasuwan presented the award to Modernine TV on January 14 to mark National Forest Protection Day 2015.

Gen Dapong said at the presentation ceremony that a close watch is needed for Thailand’s forest situation, as illegal logging has been reported from time to time.

Gen Dapong urged all parties, including concerned agencies and local residents, to join together to address the problem and to protect the remaining Thai forest areas of over 102 million rais (2.5 rais=1 acre), accounting for about 32 per cent of the country’s overall area, and to even increase the national forest areas in the future.
