A toddler afflicted with hydrocephalus was found dead in Sattahip, an apparent victim of his disease.

Sawang Rojanathammasathan Foundation medics and police were called to the Moo 4 village home Jan. 14 where they found Itthikorn “Nong Keng” Moonwong dead. His 73-year-old babysitter Wassana Treerom, and the grandmother of the 2-year-old were mourning his death.

Officers took the body to the Thepprasit temple of Taothan village for funeral rites. Ratjai Banditsin, head woman of Sattahip Sub-district was slated to host the ceremony.

Wassana said that she had been hired to take care of the boy since he was born because his father, Sub Lt. Uthai Moonwong, 35, an officer of the Mahidol Adulyadej Naval Dockyard, separated with his mother and did not have time to take care of the boy himself, as he is working.

The boy had suffered from the “elephant man” condition throughout his short life.
