The SUPPORT Foundation under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother will stage the Khon masked dance drama, Episode of ‘Kumbhakarna’ from November 5 to December 5.
The foundation promotes the performing arts on the auspicious occasions this year in honor of His Majesty the King’s 71st birthday anniversary on July 28 and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother’s 91st birthday anniversary on August 12.
The foundation organizes a grand performance for the general public, featuring young performers who have been selected and trained by experts in various artistic disciplines, including traditional Thai dance, drama and music.
The performance showcases the beauty of Thai culture and tradition, with elaborate costumes, live music, and enchanting Thai singing.
The SUPPORT Khon performance is based the theatrical script for Ramakien – the Thai version of the Indian Ramayana epic– that was compiled by King Rama I. This year, the episode features the part where Kumbhakarna, the younger brother of demon king Thotsakan, performs a magic ritual to stop Phra Ram’s army.
Additionally, the performance incorporates modern stage techniques into the traditional performing art of Khon, adding humor and contemporary elements to create a joyful and entertaining experience.
Tickets are available at Thai Ticket Major counters for prices ranging from 600 to 2,000 baht, with a special price of 180 baht for students to preserve and continue the Thai cultural heritage. (TNA)
