The Backyard Golf Society

The Backyard lads were back at Emerald again last Friday, Jan. 16, and we were surprised to see so few people on the 1st tee following the scrum that has been there over the holiday period.  Our numbers continue to fluctuate as several members are still working overseas as commuters but we did have 2 wannabe Canadians in the group this time round.

The scoring was strangely poor on what was a pretty good day but the slick greens caught a lot of people out, with several putting right off the green on some holes.  31 stableford points was sufficient for Diet Whiskey Dan to walk off with the donations.  Near-pin was won by Kit The Altrincham Alternate.

The skins were well doled out with 5 to Jim the second wannbe Canadian, 2 to the Altrincham Alternate, singles to “The Impregnator”, Andy “The Deadliest Catch” Crabb, Irish John, Martin “The Quiet Man”, Diet Whiskey Morgan and Golden Trowel’s Boyfriend.  The last 5 holes were draws and are rolled over to the next game, a nice sweetener to the pot indeed.

At the completion of the game Diet was driving back to the clubhouse with Odd, the caddy, who in reaching back to grab Diet’s towel, somehow managed to drive into a bush and in the process became entwined with the offending growth.
