Law enforcement briefed on human-trafficking in Chonburi

Police patrol officers, investigators, prosecutors and local administrators were briefed on Thailand’s current human-trafficking situation and relevant laws at a seminar in Chonburi.

Deputy Gov. Chamnanwit Taerat opened the Jan. 23 workshop at the Chon Inter Hotel, one of a series of regular training sessions held since 2008. The workshops are organized by the Chonburi office of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to disseminate information on human trafficking to all sectors of society.

Speakers this session included Somdet Nan-Udorn from the ministry’s local office and experienced trafficking police investigator Pol. Lt. Col. Komsan Kanha.

The officials were told that Chonburi faces several different forms of human-trafficking, including sex trafficking, forced labor on fishing boats and child exploitation in the form of beggars and flower sellers.

Chamnanwit said law enforcement needs to fully understand Thailand’s anti-trafficking laws and their enforcement in order to cooperate effectively and in accordance with the objectives of the law.

The deputy governor asked attended officials to learn as much as they can from the training for the effectiveness of their operations.
