Lopburi province is gearing up for its annual Monkey Buffet Festival, with a vibrant rehearsal recently held at the Phra Prang Sam Yot’s rear courtyard. The rehearsal, organized by Yongyut Kijwatthananusorn, president of the Lopburi Tourism Association, featured a spread of fruits, cookies, fruit juices, jelly, and Thai desserts for the long-tailed macaques.
The festival, which is a distinctive Chinese-style banquet for monkeys, is scheduled for the last Sunday of November (Nov 26) and will consist of four rounds of feasts at 10 am, noon, 2 pm, and 4 pm. The event takes place in the front courtyard of Phra Prang Sam Yot and other areas populated by monkeys. The festival is set to be grander than previous years, thanks to a larger budget.
Yongyut has extended an invitation to both Thai and foreign tourists, with the aim of making the festival a major attraction. Recognized as a creative tourism initiative, the festival is set to boost the local economy and rejuvenate Lopburi’s tourism sector. (NNT)
