Sunday, Jan. 18, St. Andrews – Stableford

We were moved over to St Andrews today as there was a big competition on at Green Valley and they gave it to us at Green Valley price, which was very nice.  Apart from two very wet fairways where the balls were plugging, the course was in excellent condition with the usual fast greens.

We had only one golfer who managed to break his handicap today, that was Declan Kelly who had thirty nine points and won the A Flight by a clear four points.  In second place was Nick Caulfield with who beat Paul Pavloff on a count back which went to the last two holes.  William Bishop was fourth with thirty four.

St Andrews is known as a low handicappers course and so it proved today with the higher handicappers finding it difficult.  B Flight was won by Alec Hoare with thirty points, beating Pat Carty in to second on a count back on the last six holes.  John Deardon was third after he beat Dan Hobbs on a count back.

Despite having a large field out today we had no ‘2’s.

A Flight

1st Declan Kelly (13) 39pts

2nd Nick Caulfield (6) 35pts

3rd Paul Pavloff (7) 35pts

4th William Bishop (16) 34pts

1st Alec Hoare (17) 30pts

2nd Pat Carty (25) 30pts

Tuesday, Jan. 20, Eastern Star – Stableford

Back at Eastern Star today for a very pleasant round of golf.  The course was not too busy and we teed off early and got around quickly.  Not too hot and all our friends who had just arrived from Ireland found it very comfortable for playing, not quite the same as it is over there at this time of year!

Just two people managed to play to their handicaps; Jack Behan who won the A Flight with thirty six points and John Kelly won the B Flight with the same score.

Jack Behan.Jack Behan.

Des Griffiths made a very welcome return with us after a long absence and came second in the A Flight with thirty four points and Joe McArdle was third with thirty two.

In Second place in B Flight was Brian Lalor with thirty four points.  Brian is having a good year and featuring in prizes most days.  In third place was John Fenwick with thirty two.

John McGarry got the only ‘2’ of the day and scooped the pot.

A Flight

1st Jack Behan (15) 36pts

2nd Des Griffiths (9) 34pts

3rd Joe McArdle (12) 32pts

B Flight

Thursday, Jan. 22, Pattavia – Stableford

Bad scoring today in Pattavia; I am not sure if it was just that all our friends played badly or if it was the very fast greens but not one of our golfers managed to play to their handicap.

Joe McArdle had the best score of the day with thirty four points to win the A Flight, with Terry Kelly, who has just arrived, coming second with thirty one after beating William Bishop on a count back.

Ger Lodge had only seven points on the front nine but then scored an excellent twenty-two on the back side to win the B Flight with twenty nine points.  Unfortunately for Ger, while he won the B Flight it still wasn’t enough for him to win another much more important competition he was involved in over the past few weeks.  Ger had taken on one of the locals to see who would win over the fifteen games he was playing while he was here, but the contest came to a premature end after only twelve games with Ger loosing eight three and one draw.

Gilbert Brosnan, who has also just arrived, came second in B Flight with twenty-nine points and Brian Lalor featured again in third place with twenty eight.

There were no ‘2’’s today.

A Flight

1st Joe McArdle (12) 34pts

2nd Terry Kelly (15) 31pts

3rd William Bishop (16) 31pts

B Flight

1st Ger Lodge (19) 29pts

2nd Gilbert Brossnan (23) 28pts

3rd Brian Lalor (23) 28pts
