Clubs and bars in key tourism cities will be allowed to open until later in the night from next month. The Cabinet today approved a proposal allowing entertainment venues in five cities to open until 4 am, in the hope of boosting tourism activities during the New Year holidays.

The amended regulation, which was proposed by the Ministry of Interior, will allow entertainment venues in Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Ko Samui to open as late as 4 am from 15 December.

The number of foreign tourists last week saw a 3% increase, according to the figure reported by the Economics Tourism and Sports Division on 27 November. This is due to a long holiday in Japan, and the continuous recovery in tourist numbers coming from China, South Korea, and European countries.

The majority of foreign tourists arriving in Thailand last week were from Malaysia, China, Russia, India, and South Korea.
