Former World No 2 Vera Zvonareva who is on the comeback trail after taking a year off through injury has been given a main draw wild card into the US$250,000 PTT Thailand Open, which will be held at the Dusit Thani Pattaya hotel from 8–15 February. She joins two other former champions in the tournament, Daniela Hantuchova and Shahar Peer.
Zvonareva has been given the wild card as a two-time champion of the Pattaya event. She won back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010 and Pattaya will be the third tournament she has played on the comeback trail. She has shown glimpses of her past form in the opening 2 tournaments; she beat local favourite Peng Shaui in Shenzen, China and held set points against Serena Williams at the Australian Open. She has always performed well in Pattaya and will be hoping to match or improve on her quarter-final finish in Shenzen earlier in the year.
Former 2-time champion Vera Zvonareva of Russia has been handed a wild card entry into next week’s PTT Thailand Open, being held at the Dusit Thani Pattaya hotel from Feb 8-15.
Zvonareva will join many stars who are arriving early in Pattaya to prepare for the tournament including Monica Puig, Marina Erakovic and Stefanie Vogele.
The main draw of the tournament starts on Monday 9 February from 15.00 each day, until the semi-finals on Saturday 14 February and the finals on Sunday 15 February which start from 16.00.
For those fans unable to make it to Pattaya, Siam Sports TV will broadcast “live” main draw matches from Monday 9 February through to the semi-finals and finals on 14-15 February, on True Visions channels, True 83 and True HD 695. The semi-finals and final will be broadcast “live” internationally across Asia, Europe and the Americas.
