BANGKOK, 4 February 2015 – The Office of the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) Director-General has put an emphasis on privacy protection in the cyber security act and advocates for an inclusive internet coverage of the countryside.
The ETDA Director-General Surangkana Wayuparb stated in a nationally televised broadcast regarding the cyber security act, that the ETDA stresses on the importance of judicial standards regarding the privacy protection and the security of electronic transactions and e-commerce.
She stated that business sector and the public must trust the authorities on the issue of privacy protection through the process of adjusting officials rights to allow information inspection in important investigative cases.
The ETDA Director-General insists that the legislation respects and stands to protect the privacy of the personal information, but government officials must be able access the information under special circumstances.
She said the cyber security act will ensure that online criminals will be identified. She also mentioned that the authority should work to extend internet services’ coverage to the countryside.
