Chonburi will plant 100 rai of mangrove trees to offset environmental damage inflicted by construction of a 17-kilometre elevated highway between Muang District’s Ban Suan and Ang Sila sub-districts.

Governor Khomsan Ekachai said Feb. 3 that work in the first of the five sections of the flyover has begun. The roadway will run along the shoreline passing the sub-districts of Samet, Ban Suan, Bang Pla Soi, and Bang Sai to meet Sukhumvit Road at the Ban Kao intersection.

To address environmental issues, Chonburi has partnered with the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources to plant mangrove trees on 100 rai of land to replace those taken away by the construction project and at the same time raise awareness for people in conserving the mangrove forest for the habitat of marine species and disaster prevention.
