The Backyard Golf Society

Most of the Backyard golfers (with the possible exception of our baby, “Beaker” Larsen) are old enough to know a word or two of that old language Latin, and indeed some members are probably old enough to have spoken it in their youth (Diet Whiskey for example), but the above title is not an attempt to return to the time around the Colosseum, it is simply a fact that Russell “He’s a Victorian” was indeed victorious at last Friday’s Emerald outing, Feb. 6, as his 42 points blitzed the field.  Russell wants us to believe he has been sitting offshore Myanmar for the last 4 weeks but it seems far more likely that he has been up Kanchanaburi way honing his golf game.

Near-pin today went to Irish John, returning after 3 weeks out injured.  The ‘Victorian’ was also the big winner in the skins with 11 (always a possibility with 12 players out), with 3 to The Biss, 2 to Golden Trowel’s Boyfriend and singles to “Who Brought Him” and Diet Whiskey Morgan.

For the second week running we got around in under 4 hours but our last group was once again asked to allow groups through by the following Seoul Brothers, a request ever so politely declined by our U.N. Ambassador, Mickey “The Yak”.

There were tears and gropes all day as ‘Second-hand’ Bob bid farewell to wee Boo and with Golden Trowel’s Boyfriend resplendent in “cerise” (and not pink as was one description) it was a very enjoyable game for the lads.
