BANGKOK, Feb 23 – As the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) has decided to hold Thailand’s next general election on a mixed-member proportional system (MMP), the German government has invited nine high-ranking officials to observe an election in Germany March 15-20, Thai parliamentary sources said.
After learning that Thailand is interested in applying the MMP systems being used in Germany as a model for its general election, expected to be held in 2016, the German government is inviting those involved in the election to inspect the election there, the sources said.
The Germany government would pay for all the expenses, they said.
The nine senior officers include CDC Chairman Borwornsak Uwanno, CDC Spokesman Gen Lertrat Ratanavanich, Election Commission (EC) Chairman Supachai Somcharoen and the EC commissioner responsible for investigation Boonsong Noisophon.
Two persons have been invited from the National Reform Council (NRC).
They are deputy chairwoman Tassana Boontong and Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, political reform committee chairman.
