PATTANI, 26 Feb 2015 – The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) has launched a special Thai language program for local children in the Deep South.

According to the SBPAC Secretary-General, the four-month program focuses on the improvement in speaking, reading and writing of the Thai language for first to sixth grade pupils. The teaching is conducted by volunteer graduates. Each of them will be responsible for five children. To ensure effective tuition, the volunteer tutors are to hold a brainstorming discussion on the teaching plans and the post-tuition evaluation.

Next month, the SBPAC will be carrying out the selection of volunteer teachers and ice-breaking activities between teachers and pupils before launching a new round of the Thai language program on March 19 simultaneously in five southern border provinces.

To enable related agencies to map out suitable curricula for their children, parents will be urged to help with the evaluation of their children’s learning development and inform the district office and SBPAC of their little ones’ progress.

Any village which still has not had its own volunteer tutors will be assisted by the district level volunteer teacher teams.
