BANGKOK, 4 March 2015 – The Thai Red Cross Society is encouraging people to make blood donations on the occasion of Makha Bucha Day as blood stocks are on a decline.

Deputy Director of the Thai Red Cross Society Blood Donation Center Commander Dr. Ubonrat Jaroonruengrit said the number of blood donations has decreased significantly since the beginning of this year.

Hospitals in the country normally demand around 1,000 – 2,000 units of blood daily from the Thai Red Cross Society. However, the number could rise to as many as 4,000 when the stocks are low in order to assure the blood supply in their hospitals.

Blood donors will be asked to fill out a form and undergo a test to assure the right level of blood viscosity and hygiene. Dr. Ubonrat added that blood giving is advantage to donors as human bodies will replenish the circulation with new blood once it is lost.

The Thai Red Cross Society will be running a blood drive campaign throughout this year. The campaign will be accelerated in the near future as merit making in honor of Her Royal Highness Prince Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Interested individuals can visit the Thai Red Cross Society to make donations from 08.00.-15.00 hrs.
