Answer: Sir – but only because he is probably wearing a mask and holding a gun on you.
One of our new visitors did precisely at Greenwood, playing off a 22 handicap, which was a little strange in itself as he had played off an 18 handicap two days earlier at Green Valley.
“Clear as mud,” I hear you say.
I know I am confused as well.
Monday, March 2, The Emerald – Stableford
Monday was our first outing of the week and we walked into the mother and father of all thunderstorms. For two hours it bucketed down, making play impossible but eventually the storm relented and within fifteen minutes we were out on the course.

In Division 1 it was no surprise to see Alan Thomas at the top of the leaderboard because when it comes to golf he can walk on water, so being a little damp underfoot caused him no problems whatsoever. Scot Ian Bell, who is used to playing in inclement weather, took the conditions in his stride and still shot his handicap. Dave Maw just lost out to Ian on count back.
In Division 2, Irishman Michael Maguire, who is also used to a good drenching, was like a duck to water and walked off with first prize. ‘Stokie’ (he hails from Stoke) Ged Blairs came second, with Larry Simpson putting in a late burst to take third place.

Tuesday, March 3, Eastern Star – Stableford
On Tuesday the TRGG headed off to Eastern Star, with Monday’s soaking but a distant memory.
In Division 1, Terry Worth had obviously got in an early night for once and finished top of the pile in a very close finish. He managed to ease out Derek Thorogood into second place after a count back. Hope the bridesmaids dress still fits Derek. The redoubtable Mike Rushant made it into the bronze medal position.
In Division 2, Lawrence Lee, who hails from Asian climes and is no relation to Laurie Lee of “Cider with Rosie” fame and certainly doesn’t speak with a Gloucestershire accent, took first place on the day. After a count back we discovered that Lawrence had just got the better of Michael Maguire, with Larry Simpson once again finishing strongly to again take third.

It was back to Green Valley on Thursday where the largest turnout of the week fought out a very close finish in both divisions.
In Division 1, young and virile Tristan Gilbert just lasted the pace better than both the very long in the tooth Roger Wilkinson and the diminutive female Tewin Poopay Lamthong.
It was even closer in Division 2, with Aussie Bill Reid just pipping Gary Ralph on count back, with Joe Nagle a point behind in third

Saturday, March 7, Greenwood – Stableford
And so on to the wildwest show at Greenwood (B and C courses) on Saturday. We all arrived by stage coach, most of us completely unaware that we had been infiltrated by the “gang of one” known as Darren Stanton. A young, good looking fellow on the outside, a steely eyed assassin lurking on the inside. Little did any of us suspect what was about to take place before our very eyes.
By the end of the day Mr Stanton, if that is his real name, was able to ride off into the sunset with his first place takings together with a very sizeable ‘2’s pot. Wanted dead or alive posters are being erected all over Pattaya as I speak.
It is almost a byline to tell you that Bill Reid finished second and Nick Thomas was third.
