A contractor was killed when the utility pole he climbed in East Pattaya fell and crushed him to death.
Supachai Naming, 38, was killed instantly when the 5-meter-tall pole fell on him in front of the Siam Royal Hill Village on Soi Khao Talo.
An optical-cabling contractor, Supachai had brought his two brothers to help him relocate a fiber-optic Internet cable to poles on the opposite side of the road. But as he climbed near the top of the pole, it suddenly fell over on top of him.
The accident caused a traffic backup and the Provincial Electricity Authority was called to move the post.
Methansit Somla, a member of Nongprue Municipal Council, said he saw the contractors before the accident and noticed the utility pole was leaning hazardously. He said he warned the victim to be careful and Supachai told him not to worry as he understood the situation.
