Mat, a very hard working home care nurse at Ban Chang Hospital, covers a huge area located around Ban Chang town and each day visits the homeless, the handicapped, the single parents, the HIV infected, the ill, the elderly and the lonely. Each day she makes a difference for someone in her local area and PILC has the enormous privilege of being able to help and support Mat’s work. PILC has for several years been donating a monthly sum which covers the supplies of the most fundamental food items, like cooking oil, noodles, rice, canned fish and fish oil for a number of people that Mat helps.
The staff and volunteers at Ban Chang Hospital don’t want to just sit back and receive donations passively; they want to get involved and try to raise funds needed to cover these donations. They do so by collecting “stuff” from their local area and by setting up a garage sale.
(L to R) Porn, Mat, Helle and Moi are ready to start making bargains at the Ban Chang Hospital garage sale.
My part of the deal is collecting “stuff” from the PILC ladies, who always donate generously, and show up on the garage sale day when the bargaining can begin.
The hospital staff and people from the local area support the garage sale in an atmosphere of excitement and expectation. This is an event looked forward to by all.
When most all was counted up, the garage sale made 52,800 baht to help with this charitable cause.
A happy customer walks away with a great bargain, and at the same time helps cover costs to help the less fortunate in the community.
There are many bargains to be found at the Ban Chang Hospital garage sale.
