Broken taxi meters in Pattaya

The first 25 cabs came with broken meters. Special order for Pattaya. Before the cabs, Pattaya had a great free A/C bus system. You can now see the cute blue and white bus stop signs recently put up but the word free is missing. The buses had a driver and a conductor and connected Pattaya, Naklua, Banglamung, S3, Jomtien and back to Pattaya.

Things were going so good that a commercial A/C bus service was born headquartered in Jomtien, running the Red and Green lines, and a Yellow line to be added, all having a driver and conductor.

Tickets were 20 baht and an “all you can ride” monthly pass was 1,000 baht. I still have mine.

Within a short time (six months) after they spent millions of baht erecting huge red and green line bus signs that displayed and sold advertising, the buses were stopped from running. Then shortly after the first 25 broken meter taxis came. With all the tourists Pattaya could use a modern bus system. We will probably get another 700 songthaews driving half routes again.
