NAKHON PATHOM, 20 March 2015 – A market for paddy rice producers held in Nakhon Pathom has proven successful with 700 tons of rice sold to silo owners on the opening day of the market.

The 3-day market provides farmers an optional channel to sell their grains at negotiable prices. Government officials also took part in the program to assure transparency in humidity measurement and purchase of paddy among buyers.

According to the Department of Internal Trade, silo operators bought 700 tons of paddy worth nearly five million baht on the opening day of the market on March 18.

Prices have been bargained to the range of 6,500 – 7,000 baht per ton as the humidity levels of the rice were found to be higher than 20%. Farmers were reportedly satisfied with the prices. It is expected that more than 2,000 tons of paddy will have been sold by the end of the event today.
