BANGKOK, 20 March 2015 – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has revealed that the disbursement of investment funds by the government is nearly halfway completed.

Speaking on his weekly TV program, Gen Prayut reported that up to 46 percent of the government’s investment budget for the current fiscal year has been paid out so far. The rate is higher compared to the same period in previous years. The premier added that contracts have been signed for investment projects worth 280 billion baht altogether while expecting 90 percent of the planned projects to go through the contract signing process within this month.

Gen Prayut said the allocated funds have already reached a number of the projects, including road maintenance by the Department of Highways and the Department of Rural Roads worth 40 billion baht, improvement of water management and irrigation systems in the dry season worth 38 billion baht, and construction of railway infrastructure.

In addition, the premier affirmed that the government has constantly devised measures to reduce the people’s living expenses and stimulate domestic consumption in the face of economic problems. Special attention has been paid to agriculturists in order to lower their production costs and increase their income. Several assistance measures have also been implemented to safeguard Thai SMEs against impacts from the global economic slowdown.
