BANGKOK, 4 July 2011 – The Ministry of Energy has indicated that a gradual price increase for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for industrial use is now awaiting its announcement in the Royal Gazette before becoming effective.
According to Permanent Secretary for Energy Norkhun Sitthipong, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva already signed an order on 1 July to float the price of LPG for industrial purpose by 3 THB per kilogram per quarter for one year, or altogether 12 THB per kilogram. However, the increase will officially take effect only after all details and related regulations, currently being drafted by the Energy Policy and Planning Office, have been completed and published in the Royal Gazette.
Regarding a request by entrepreneurs in the ceramic and glass industry for the postponement of the LPG price hike due to the higher production cost, Mr Norkhun explained that the issue was out of the Energy Ministry’s power to decide as it was under a caretaker government at the moment. He said the matter would need to be brought to the National Energy Policy Council for consideration.
