The Department of Cultural Promotion (DCP), under the Ministry of Culture (MOC), has produced Songkran songs in up to 12 languages to celebrate the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024 nationwide.

As Songkran or the traditional Thai New Year Festival is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, Minister of Culture Sermsak Pongpanit stated that the Ministry of Culture, through the Department of Cultural Promotion, has undertaken the production of Songkran songs in various languages. These languages include Thai, English, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Indonesian, Burmese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese, totaling 12 languages

This initiative aims to promote awareness and understanding of the cultural significance of the Songkran festival in Thailand among both the general public and international tourists. It also supports the enhancement of Thailand’s soft power by leveraging language as a means to create value and generate income for the country, thereby fostering creativity and innovation among the Thai people.

In addition to Songkran songs, the Department of Cultural Promotion has produced a music video (MV) featuring Songkran songs in Thai and various foreign languages, along with content on Songkran traditions, the legend of Nang Songkran, and dos and don’ts during the festival.
