The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with over 20 government, private, and cultural network agencies, is set to host a grand cultural festival titled “Under the Auspice of Royal Grace: 242 Years of Rattanakosin” from April 19 to April 25. The festival is dedicated to commemorating the 242nd anniversary of the Rattanakosin Kingdom, honoring King Rama I, the founder of the Chakri dynasty, and subsequent Thai monarchs for their contributions to national stability, religious nurturing, and cultural prosperity.
The week-long event will take place across multiple historical and cultural sites around Rattanakosin Island, including the National Museum, the National Theater, and the Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center. Scheduled activities include a guardian spirit worship ceremony, a merit-making ceremony dedicated to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, and an alms-giving ceremony for 99 monks.
The festival will also feature various cultural exhibitions and performances, such as traditional Khon masked dance and contemporary music, a retro market showcasing royal cuisine, and a “Night Museum” experience. Seminars and exhibitions will also explore Bangkok’s historical narrative through photographs, films, and academic discussions, enhancing the cultural tourism experience and contributing to economic growth by leveraging cultural heritage and promoting local culinary and artistic traditions.
