The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is transforming an 86-rai land plot in the eastern part of Bangkok into a “wetland forest” park to enhance urban green spaces and provide residents with clean air. Set to open this year, the new park, located in Beung Kum district, builds upon the area’s original use as Klong Lam Bung Kum, a floodwater retention basin designed to mitigate flooding in eastern Bangkok.

Klong Lam Beung Kum, recognized for its ecological value and integration with local communities, has evolved from a functional basin into a space for exercise, leisure, and relaxation frequented by residents. Its conversion into a district park under the Bangkok Wetland Forest (BWF) initiative comes as a natural progression, given its wetland features and its strategic location near Seri Thai Park and Nawamin Phirom Park.

The development plan for the park includes significant enhancements such as a 3,060-meter asphalt-covered walkway and a 420-meter waterside walkway equipped with a barrier. Additional upgrades include improved landscaping, new lighting installations, the addition of wastewater treatment tanks, and barriers to restrict vehicle access on the walkways.

During a recent inspection, Deputy Bangkok Governor Jakkapan Phiewngam, along with senior BMA officials, emphasized the need for public cooperation to maintain the park’s safety and environmental integrity. The district office has been tasked with enforcing rules to keep the park vehicle-free and to prevent activities such as drinking and bonfire lighting that could jeopardize visitor safety and environmental preservation.
