Village chiefs, health workers, civil servants, and defense volunteers were given intensive training in drug-suppression tactics at a five-day camp in Chonburi.
Deputy Gov. Chawalit Saeng-Uthai presided over the Drug Enforcement Optimization Project at the 14th Military Circle for 93 village chiefs and deputies, sub-district medical practitioners, defense volunteers, municipal officers and community leaders from Pattaya City and Banglamung District March 23-27.
Drug problems have been affecting many areas and are spreading further despite drug-suppression efforts by the government.

Last year, Chonburi provided strategic training to 850 to Chonburi officials in similar positions whose prominent operations in drug suppression have been recognized widely.
This time, Banglamung District and Pattaya City held the Drug Enforcement Optimization Project for area civil volunteers and officials to optimize their capacities and personal safety when dealing with suspects resisting arrest.
The 14th Military Circle in Chonburi provided the training facilities, including a gun range, while munitions were provided by the 21st Infantry Regiment. Trainers included instructors from the military, Chonburi Provincial Public Prosecutor Office, and Chonburi Provincial Police.
Chawalit said that Chonburi has carried out drug arrests in the area continuously and has been providing training so officials gain knowledge and experience in order to operate safely.
