The Thai economy is in poor shape; also they have a pile of debt from the rice pledging scheme debacle. Not all prices are increasing and if David above would seek alternative residence he would quickly find bargains to be had. Do you expect your landlord is going to lower your rent? Not until he thinks he might lose you, or you find a better place for less. Save the airfare regarding Spain.
