The government is hosting a reception at Government House to celebrate the progress of the marriage equality bill, which is nearing final approval. Scheduled for 5 PM, June 18, the event will take place in front of the Thai Ku Fah Building and will feature a gathering of VIPs, cabinet members, foreign envoys, and representatives from the Bangkok Pride task force.

The reception celebrates a crucial phase for the marriage equality bill, which has been approved by the Senate scrutiny committee and is awaiting deliberation by the Senate next Tuesday. If passed, the bill will proceed to the cabinet and the prime minister before being presented for His Majesty the King’s endorsement.

The evening will feature an array of activities, including shows, speeches, concerts, and gatherings celebrating gender-diverse couples. The celebrations are expected to extend into Tuesday, with a parade to the Bangkok Art and Culture Center in Pathumwan district.

Deputy Government Spokeswoman Radklao Inthawong Suwankiri expressed enthusiasm for the momentous occasion, positioning Thailand as the third country in Asia, after Taiwan and Nepal, and the first in Southeast Asia, to legalize same-sex marriage. (NNT)
