The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) has hosted a ceremonial blessing for the first 14 vessels slated to participate in the royal barge procession in October. The event, overseen by Navy Chief Admiral Adung Phan-iam, took place at the National Museum of Royal Barges in Bangkok Noi district. Among the vessels blessed were the prominent royal barges, including Suphannahong, Narai Song Suban, and Anantanagaraj.
The 3 barges, along with six escort vessels, will soon be moved to the RTN’s Thonburi Naval Dockyard in preparation for their launch into the Chao Phraya River on Thursday (July 4). The launch precedes the royal krathin ceremony on October 27, commemorating His Majesty the King’s 72nd birthday anniversary on July 28.
In readiness for the October ceremony, the RTN has completed the restoration of all 52 barges participating in the procession. About 2,000 oarsmen have been prepared, with rehearsals set to commence on August 1 and continue weekly. Full dress rehearsals in traditional oarsman uniforms are scheduled for October 15 and 22.
Admiral Adung underlined the thorough preparations in progress, demonstrating the Navy’s commitment to upholding and celebrating Thailand’s deep-rooted maritime traditions. (NNT)
