The seminar featured keynote speakers such as His Excellency Han Zhiqiang, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, and Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, President of Chulalongkorn University Council and former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The research titled “Building a Thailand-China Community with a Shared Future and Its Implications for Thailand,” conducted by the Chinese Studies Center of the Institute of Asian Studies at Chulalongkorn University, highlights the strong historical ties between Thailand and China.

These ties have laid the foundation for a community with a shared future in the modern world.

The Chinese Studies Center, in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, held an academic seminar to present and disseminate this research.

Dr. Arm Tungnirun, Director of the Chinese Studies Center, presented the research, which he co-authored with Dr. Kulnaree Nukitrangsan and Dr. Krongchan Chantraphaha of the Institute of Asian Studies.

The research is summarized in three key stories that underscore the strong foundation of Thai-Chinese relations and their cooperation towards a shared future.

Royal Ties: The close relationship between China and the Thai royal family particularly HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has deepened the bond between the two nations.

Diplomatic History: The establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, marked by a meeting between former Thai Prime Minister M.R. Kukrit Pramoj and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai, symbolizes the natural and fraternal ties that have existed since the end of the Cold War. This relationship is further strengthened by the long history of amicable interactions without conflict. Astronomical Cooperation: The inclusion of equipment from Thailand’s National Astronomical Research Institute in China’s Chang’e-7 mission reflects the modern-day collaboration between the two nations.

This partnership in science and technology is seen as a key factor in enhancing Thailand’s economic and technological standing.

Ambassador Han Zhiqiang praised the research and reiterated China’s commitment to building a community with a shared future for humanity, emphasizing mutual trust, support, and equality. Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai highlighted the nearly 50 years of cooperation and close ties between the Thai and Chinese governments, describing the relationship as a model for sustainable international relations in the modern world.
