A crackdown on human trafficking, top priority for Social Development & Human Security Ministry

BANGKOK, 23 April 2015 – The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has vowed to intensify its crackdown on human trafficking and promote social equality as part of its mission over the next six months.

To increase the effectiveness of its anti-human trafficking campaign, Minister of Social Development and Human Security Adul Saengsingkaew said related agencies would continue with their efforts to secure the return of Thai fishermen trapped in Indonesia.

The ministry will in addition circulate information on its anti-human trafficking campaign to different sectors to enhance awareness of the problem. At the same time, its multi-disciplinary teams and interpreters will be educated on how to classify different types of victims. The ministry will soon sign an anti-human trafficking MOU with the United Arab Emirates and review those previously signed with Laos and Myanmar.

On the domestic-level, the ministry will focus on finding solutions to problems regarding street beggars. Attention will also be given to improving the well-being of the underprivileged, the elderly, low income earners and ethnic groups.
