BANGKOK, 24 April 2015 – The Royal Thai Police has reported that officers dealt with more than 200 cases of human trafficking since last year, during a self-assessment of its performance over the past six months.
According to the Royal Thai Police, authorities last year pressed charges against alleged wrongdoers involved in 280 cases of human trafficking. The accused in 108 cases have been brought to trial. Since the beginning of 2015, police have so far dealt with 68 cases of human trafficking.
This year, the major missions are a crackdown on drugs, improvement of the criminal database in preparation for the emergence of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), a clampdown on corruption, suppression of human trafficking and enhancement of police welfare.
The tasks which the Royal Thai Police wish to accomplish first are an eradication forced prostitution, illegal labor and problems related beggars.
