Ref Songkran Festival Pattaya

Dear Sirs,

I have to respectfully take issue with one aspect of your recent coverage of the Songkran Festival in Pattaya.

It would be churlish to deny that Songkran celebrations in Pattaya are enjoyed by many and, in that respect, your excellent photos were clearly designed to put a positive spin on the whole thing.

However, your reference to the influx of visitors the festival brings to the town fails to take into account the huge number of people, mostly foreigners, who find the whole thing intolerable and make a mass exodus for 10 days. Doesn’t one figure need to be balanced against the other?

For the future, couldn’t something be done to reduce the celebrations to the three days: 13th-15th April, plus the one special day?

Ten days is simply too much, both bringing disruption to our lives and impacting on local businesses.
