A recent survey commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and conducted by Suan Dusit University has revealed a strong national sentiment towards the Thai language. According to the poll conducted in line with National Thai Language Day 2024, 71.22% of the 22,109 respondents view the Thai language as a crucial national symbol.

The survey stressed the role of educational institutions in promoting the correct use of the Thai language, with schools and universities identified as key influencers. Moreover, several social media platforms were noted as common sources where misuse of the language is prevalent, particularly in terms of spelling and pronunciation errors.

Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol pointed out that the Thai public values the language for communication as well as for developing knowledge and creativity. The survey indicated a significant trust in teachers, news announcers, and hosts in shaping the current use of the language.

The findings further suggested that enhancing Thai language skills remains a priority, with the public calling for government-led initiatives such as language-focused exhibitions, contests, and educational media production.

The Ministry of Culture has actively been promoting the importance of the Thai language through various activities, including poetry publications, song contests, and video productions aimed at fostering correct language use. Each year, on July 29, the ministry commemorates National Thai Language Day by honoring those who excel in using and preserving the language, inspiring all Thais to appreciate and uphold their linguistic heritage.
