BANGKOK, 30 April 2015 -The Army Commander has insisted that the government will not intervene in any media outlet, provided no laws were broken.
Regarding a visit by police officers and soldiers to the Peace TV station, Army Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr claimed it was to ensure the station’s compliance with the law, after an interview with former Premier General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh went on the air.
General Udomdej said that any TV station found to be in violation of related broadcasting laws would be investigated further as necessary. He claimed that no media rights would be infringed upon, if the press abides by the law.
He also believed that there would be no misunderstandings with the former premier, with whom he has already spoken. The Army Chief has urged the media in Thailand to present news that promote peace and do not incite unrest.
