BANGKOK, 2 May 2015 – The Ministry of Culture is set to dispatch a team of experts to help determine the damage to the historical and world heritage sites affected by the earthquake in Nepal.
The Minister of Culture Vira Rojpojchanarat has revealed that the Department of Fine Arts has been appointed to set up a ‘Thailand Team’ that is comprised of archeology experts, architects, engineers, conservation scientists, and art historians to help the Nepali authority determine the damage that historical and world heritage sites have sustained from the earthquake.
Team Thailand will operate in support of the planning of the conservation and restoration plan, set to take place after the urban restoration and the recovery of the victims.
The team will initially gather information through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before being the Cabinet will consider their next move.
The damaged sites includes the Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, and Dharahara Tower in Kathmandu, as well as ancient Hindi religious places in Bhaktapur and Patan, which are considered important tourism attractions of Nepal that has generated a large portion of the national income.
