The Ministry of Transport is expediting the infrastructure revamp in Sa Kaeo province to facilitate connectivity between the border province and Cambodia.

According to Transport Permanent Secretary Soithip Traisut, the infrastructure development project includes construction of a 10.5-kilometer bypass linking the Sa Kaeo to Cambodia, improvement of Route 3397 to connect the highway with rural roads, enlargement of two-lane Sipen Road into four-lanes, and the extension of the Khlong Sib Kao – Khlong Luek – Aranyaprathet rail route to Poipet in Cambodia.

The Ministry of Transport will include the infrastructure development plan in Sa Kaeo in its agenda for the meeting on May 18 to be chaired by Transport Minister ACM Prajin Juntong. The results of the discussion will be forwarded to the meeting of the committee supervising the development of special economic zones which will be chaired by PM Prayut Chan-o-cha on May 21.

Sa Kaeo is one of the five provinces which the government has planned to develop into special economic zones. Trade and investment between the province’s Khlong Luk border and Poipet border in Cambodia is valued at 70 billion baht and is likely to grow by 10 percent each year. Other provinces designated as special economic zones are Trat, Tak, Mukdahan, and Songkhla.
