With Singha Corporation at the helm as title sponsor, the Thailand Open will make a popular return to the golfing calendar this year.  The prestigious tournament, which was last played in 2013, will tee off on the Plantation Course at Siam Country Club from June 11 to 14.

The 45th staging of one of the region’s most revered golf tournaments will boast prize money of US$1 million and be jointly sanctioned by OneAsia and the Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO).

The tournament also welcomes on board as major co-sponsors Mercedes-Benz, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), Emirates Airline and the Siam@Siam Design Hotel Pattaya.

“Having staged many world class events, Siam Country Club will bring a wealth of experience to the table and we are confident of being able to add enormous value to the Singha Corporation Thailand Open,” said Dr. Phornthep Phornprapha, Chairman, Siam Country Club.

Designed by Lee Schmidt of Schmidt & Curley and opened in April 2008, the Plantation Course is a great test of golf with strong winds regularly adding to the degree of difficulty.  It hosted the Honda LPGA Thailand in 2009 and the Thailand Ladies Open in 2013.

The Thailand Open, first played in 1965, became part of OneAsia in 2010 when Chinese number one Liang Wen-chong took the title.  Australian Andre Stolz won the following year with Chris Wood from England triumphant in 2012.  Two years ago Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng recorded a brilliant victory to become only third Thai to win the Thailand Open title and expectations are high for another thrilling edition this year.
