Government pawnshops cut rates to help parents before new school semester

BANGKOK, 7 May 2015 – According to the government’s “Returning Happiness to Thai People” policy, 34 government pawnshops nationwide under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, are charging a lower interest rate until June to lighten the financial load on parents as a new school semester approaches.

The rates are reduced by 25 satang per month on a sum not exceeding 5,000 baht, 75 satang per month for principal amounts between 5,000-10,000 baht, 1 baht per month on 10,001-20,000 baht principal and 1.25 baht per month for higher than 20,000 baht principal.

The rates outlined are lower than the rates indicated in the Pawnshop Act B.E. 2505
