PSC golf from The Bunker Bar

Monday, Nov. 15, Mountain Shadow – Stableford

The largest field of the year so far (10 groups), headed off to tackle the notoriously difficult Mountain Shadow course in excellent weather conditions.  The course was in good fettle with the greens slick and true, the result being that 3 putts were the order of the day for many golfers.

Tony Berry continued his recent run of good form, and was the only golfer to play to his handicap, winning the A Flight.  Marion Melia won the B Flight, thereby gaining her maiden win at the Bunker.

A Flight

1st Tony Berry (12) 36pts

2nd Phil Moore (11) 34pts

3rd Derek Stephenson (13) 33pts

B Flight

1st Marion Melia (26) 32pts

2nd PJ Redmond (20) 31pts

3rd Laurence Harding (17) 30pts

Near Pins: Jack Geer, Mike Corner, Mike Lloyd, and Neil Jones.

Wednesday, Nov. 17, Rayong C.C. – Stableford

We made a return visit to Rayong C.C. after a couple of month’s layoff, and to say it proved something of a disappointment, would be an understatement.  The course was generally dry and shabby, many bunkers apparently untended for weeks, and the greens were slow and bumpy.

One or two players managed to overcome the conditions (both with 38 points), Geoff Cox winning the A Flight and PJ Redmond taking the honours in B Flight.

It’s unlikely that we’ll be making a return visit anytime soon, which is sad because the course is a good layout and had previously shown signs of improvement earlier in the year, but now appears to be slipping back into disrepair.

A Flight

1st Geoff Cox (15) 38pts

2nd Dave Ashman (15) 37pts

3rd Geoff Parker (16) 34pts

B Flight

1st PJ Redmond (20) 38pts

2nd Reg Smart (25) 35pts

3rd Geoff Hart (18) 31pts

Near Pins:  Mike Johns, Phil Moore, Tony Berry, and Marion Melia (that should get PJ going!)

Friday, Nov. 19, Crystal Bay – Medal

Even though we had 12 regular players taking part in the PSC monthly competition, there was still a big turnout – maybe the high season has really arrived!  Unlike our previous visit when the course was waterlogged, it was now in fine condition and the round proceeded smoothly.

Three players finished with net 70 points; the in-form Phil Moore beating JJ on a count-back to win the A Flight, and Duncan Lee taking the honours in B Flight on his first game back.

A Flight

1st Phil Moore (12) net 70

2nd JJ Harney (12) net 70

3rd Greg Berry (10) net 72

B Flight

1st Duncan Lee (18) net 70

2nd Mike Corner (20) net 71

3rd Geoff Parker (16) net 73

Near Pins: Dave Ashman, Greg Berry, Mike Lloyd and Takeshi
